Letter from Scientologist to US Senator (May 10, 1985)

FBI File No.: 62-116151-71

U.S. SENATE
WASHINGTON D.C.
20510

Dear Senator,

I am writing to you to bring to your attention a matter of grave threat to the constitutional rights of American citizens and groups.

Recent events have undercovered the existance of modern day domestic intelligence operations being conducted by both the I.R.S. and F.B.I. with apparent cooperation of certain individuals within the Department of Justice.

For example, on the New York Times, we had harassment reported of citizens and groups by the F.B.I. and I.R.S. We heard recently of outlines a multi-agency plan to disrupt the Church of Scientology internally and replacing of church management with individuals under the control of the government.

I can’t conceive and afford to return to the days of Agency actions taken against American citizens and groups for ideological actions.

I ask you by this letter to write the I.R.S. and the F.B.I. to have an explanation of the case and for accounting of these domestic intelligence activities.
